One of the country’s longest established motor dealerships, Sherwoods has a long and proud history that has survived through years of war and economic downturn to grow into a thriving business.
In January 1925, Sherwoods was already an established motor dealership when Richard Alan Sherwood and his brother decided to expand their business to include the Vauxhall brand. Previously a dealer in luxury brands, the brothers clearly saw greater choice and value as being central to their future in selling and maintaining cars.
Some ninety years on, Sherwoods has grown into a three-site business employing 160 members of staff, selling more than 2500 new and used cars every year. Growth has given us the scale and buying power to continue offering the same great choice and value our founders envisaged all those years ago.
Always a small family business at heart, Sherwoods has seen over 30 colleagues surpass 20 years’ employment service. We believe happy staff equals happy customers – that’s why our people are key to offering the highest level of customer care, a reputation of which we are extremely proud.
In 2018 Vauxhall Motors was sold by GM to the PSA group. The changes brought in by PSA caused substantial transformations to the dealer network and following these changes it was with some sadness that the MacConachie family, now custodians of the Sherwoods business, decided to accept an outstanding offer to sell the Vauxhall businesses to the larger Drive Group.
